Texas State RailroadThe towns of Palestine and Rusk are connected by Texas State Highway 84 with a distance of approximately 31 miles between them. Both are considered East Texas and the surround areas are beautiful to see all year around. Particularly in Spring when the Dogwood trees are blooming and then again in the fall when the trees turn beautiful fall colors.

The Texas State Railroad travels between the both of these towns and is a wonderful experience for the whole family. The train trips are offered year around with special events and dinner trains as well. Both steam and diesel trains and used and provide a scenic ride through East Texas. When in Palestine take time to visit Old Town. Palestine has more buildings in the National Historic Registery than any Texas city with the exception of Galveston. There are many parks to visit and the annual Dogwood Trails Festival - late March to early April - highlights the areas many dogwood trees in the Davey Dogwood Park. For information call: 800-659-3484. Operated by NASA, the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility is a must see. Tours by appointment. Call: 903-729-0271.
