Named after General Sam Houston, Houston is a premier city an hours drive from the Gulf of Mexico. With over 2 million people there's always something happening here - festivals, food, museums, zoo, horse racing, and lots more. Accessible north/south by Interstate 45; east/west via Interstate 10.

Houston is home to Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Baptist University, Rice University, South Texas College of Law, South Texas Junior College, Texas Southern university, University of Houston, University of St. Thomas and University of Texas Health Science Center.

Some of the major annual events include the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March, Houston International Festival in April, and the Freedom over Texas in July.

Professional sports abound and are represented by the Houston astros (baseball); Houston Rockets and Comets (basketball); Houston Texans (football); Houston Dynamo (soccer); and Houston aeros (hockey).
