Near town of Del Rio | Joint project of USA and Mexico. Toll-free access to Mexico across the dam. Clear blue waters offer boating, fishing and sightseeing. There is Lake Amistad Marina and resort near the south end of US 90 bridge going over the reservoir with Rough Canyon Marina on the Devil's River arm of the reservoir (off US 277 and US 377). |
Balmorhea Acres: 573
Near town of Balmorhea | Impoundment on Sandia Creek where fishing and boating are permitted. Lake Balmorhea provides irrigation for thousands of surrounding acres. Located approximately 3 miles southeast of Balmorhea by way of a local road from US 290. |
Imperial Reservoir Acres: 1,530
Near town of Monahans/ Fort Stockton | Located in arid West Texas between the 2 mentioned towns, Imperial Reservoir provides both irrigation & recreation including boating, fishing, swimming and other related water sports. Access off Texas 18. |
Red Bluff Reservoir
Near town of Orla | Pecos River water conservation/irrigation project that also provides a variety of water sports as well as excellent fishing for white bass, hybrid striped bass and native catfish. Located approximately 5 miles north of Orla off of US 285 (43 miles north of Pecos). |

Clear Lake
Near town of Houston | In the southeast area of Houston near nasa. Rentals available for power boats, sail boats, water skis, jet skis, canoes, para-sailing and wind surfing. Come fish for both fresh and saltwater species. Clear Lake is where Armand and Taylor Bayous, and Clear Creek meet to egress into Galveston Bay. Access from NASA Rd. 1 or FM 2094 between Texas 146 and I-45. |
Corpus Christi Acres:19,336
Near town of Mathis | Located a few miles west of Mathis off Texas 359 or via Alice; this reservoir is located on the Nueces River and popular for swimming, fishing, boating, sailing and skiing. The upper reaches of this 27 mile long lake offer excellent habitat for fish. There are several spots around the shore with fishing camps and marinas. (See Lake Corpus Christi State Park information/Mathis.) |
El Sal Del Rey (The King's Salt)
Near town of Raymondville | Located approximately 20 miles west of Raymondville off Texas 186; water collects in shallow depressions in the 'wet' season and then evaporates leaving crystallized rock salt. |

Near town of Houston | Located about 18 miles northeast of Houston via US 290 or from Humble via FM 1960, Lake Houston is popular for fishing and water sports. |
Sabine
Near town of Port Arthur | Main body of lake is about 19 miles long (common mouth of Sabine and Neches Rivers). The 2 mile-long levees provide fishing for saltwater speckled trout, flounder, redfish and other types of fish. Crabbing is also popular here. Sabine Lake is accessible from both Orange and Port Arthur. |
Texana Acres:11,000
Near town of Edna | This reservoir extends 18 miles up the Navidad River. There are 10 boat ramps around the lake with parking and boat launches. There are also park sites with camping, picnic areas, nature trails, and marinas - all provided by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority. Good for observing wildlife and photography. The dam headquarters are located approximately 8 iles southeast of Edna via FM 1822 or from Granado. |

Near town of Llano | Lower Colorado River Authority - this lake is the broadest and highest of 6 Highland Lakes. Offers fishing and water sports with lots of space for skiing, sailing, boating. Almost limitless beaches, marinas, docks and vacation home developments. Both public and commercial boat ramps and camps. Accessible from both Llano and Burnett. |
Canyon Lake Acres:8,240
Near town of New Braunfels | One of the most scenic in Texas set amongst steep-shouldered evergreen hills. Here you'll find public parks along the shore offering picnicking, camping/trailer areas and boat ramps. There are also 2 yacht clubs, 2 marinas, fishing groups and ski club along with loads of other activities. Excellent fishing. Located approximately 20 miles north of New Braunfels via Texas 46 and FM 2722 (north); or FM 306 north of I-35. Also accessible from the towns of Sattler, San Marcos and Blanco. |
Georgetown Acres: 1,310
Near town of Georgetown | On North Fork of San Gabriel River this lake is speed restricted in designated fishing areas. Stocked with smallmouth bass and channel cat. It has 3 public use areas, camping areas with RV hookups, and boat launch ramps. Also available are primitive hiking, camping trail. Located approximately 4 miles west of I-35 at Georgetown via FM 2388. |
Granger Lake
Near town of Taylor | Corps of Engineers lake opened in 1981 is stocked with Florida largemouth bass and channel catfish. Has a hiking trail along a scenic shoreline with swimming at Wilson Fox Park. Offers camping with hookups, boat ramps, and free picnic areas. The headquarters of the dam are approximately 7 miles east of Granger on FM 971. Also accessible from the town of Bartlett. |
Inks Lake Acres: 803
Near town of Llano | One of the Highland Lakes of the Lower Colorado River Authority. Scenic with excellent all year-round fishing. Also popular for water sports and boating. Has marinas, lake side docks, and vacation homes. Also: Inks Lake State Park and Highland Lakes Golf Course (See Buchanan Dam State Park). Located south of Buchanan Dam via Park Road. Also accessible from the town of Burnett. |
Lady Bird Lake
Near town of Austin | (Not shown on most maps) This lake is a stabilized course of Colorado River with The Lone Star paddle-wheeler sightseeing boat offering cruises Memorial Day through Labor Day. Lake side fishing is available. Sailing and canoeing are permitted. No swimming or power boats are allowed. |
Lyndon B. Johnson (Formerly Granite Shoals Lake) Acres: 6,375
Near town of Kingsland | Very scenic lake in the Highland Lakes series on the Colorado River. Offers excellent fishing, boat rentals, launching ramps, lake side marinas, water skiing, and sailing. Located south of Kingsland from FM 1431 (East side) or FM 2900 and other roads to other recreational areas (West). |
Marble Falls Acres: 780
Near town of Marble Falls | One in the series of the Highland Lakes; impoundment on Colorado River. Activities include year-round fishing, sailing, swimming, boating, and skiing. Also has picnic facilities, launching ramps, city park and swimming pool. This lake is inside the city of Marble Falls and winds approximately 6 miles up the Colorado River. |
Medina Lake Acres: 5,575
Near town of Bandera | Impoundment on Medina River with year-round fishing. Popular for water sports. Located about 23 miles southeast of Bandera via Texas 16 to Pipe Creek. Also accessible via Castroville. |
Travis Acres: 18,930
Near town of Austin | Managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority this lake is one of the Highland Lakes; flood control/water supply reservoir. It has 270 miles of shoreline offering marinas, camps, vacation homes and resorts. Extremely popular for skiing, sailing, boating, and fishing as well as the outcroppings of minerals and fossils. Alan Henry (Fee)
Near town of Lubbock | Built by the city of Lubbock this lake is the water supply for part of Garza County. It was constructed on the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River approximately 65 miles from the city. The recreational area offers picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating. Arrowhead Acres: 16,200
Near town of Wichita Falls | Located approximately 14 miles southeast of Wichita Falls this lake is on the Little Wichita River. Offers fishing, swimming, picnicking, boating - including the facilities at Lake Arrowhead State Park. Accessible via US 281 south and FM 1954 east; and from Archer City and Henrietta. |
Brownwood Acres: 7,300 Near town of Brownwood | Located among pleasant hills this lake is the location of some religious and youth camps. Its 95 mile shoreline offers commercial camps and boat docks as well as swimming, boating, camping and water skiing. See Lake Brownwood State Park. |
Champion Creek Reservoir Acres: 1,560
Near town of Colorado City | Located approximately 7 miles south of Colorado City off Texas 208. Provides campsites, picnic areas, boat docks, fishing and swimming. |
Childress & Baylor Near town of Childress | Located approximately 9 miles west of Childress off US 287, these adjacent lakes are not only used for water supply for the city but also fishing and camping. Camping areas with RV sites and dump station are available. |
Cisco Acres: 445
Near town of Cisco | Located in scenic hills about 4 miles north of Cisco off Texas 6; this lake is excellent for water sports and fishing. A city park has picnicking, primitive camping area and miniature golf. You'll also find unusual rock formations of interest to mineral collectors here. |
Coleman Acres: 2,000 Near town of Coleman | Press Morris Park (190 acres/city of Coleman) is located on this lake. Activities include fishing, water sports, picnicking, camping and wildlife watching. Located approximately 17 miles north of Coleman off US 283. |
Colorado City Acres: 1,612
Near town of Colorado City | Activities include fishing, picnicking with areas for boat ramps and camping and Lake Colorado City State Park (500 acres). Most activities can be enjoyed year-round. Located approximately 7 miles southwest of Colorado City off I-20 west or Texas 163 south. |
Daniel Acres: 950 Near town of Breckenridge | Located about 7 miles south of Breckenridge via US 183 and FM 576, this lake is on gonzales Creek, operated by city of Breckenridge for recreation and water supply. Activities include primitive camping, picnicking at designated sites and fishing. No swimming. |

Near town of Wichita Falls | Impoundment on Wichita River; activities include water sports and fishing. Located approximately 27 miles southwest of Wichita Falls via US 82 / 277west to Dundee, then FM 2846 north. Also can be reached from Mankins, Electra and Vernon. |
E. V. Spence Reservoir Acres: 14,950 Near town of Big Spring | Considered a showcase lake for stripped bass; operated by concessionaires with boat ramps, camping and supplies. |
Eddleman & Graham Acres: 2,500
Near town of Graham | These two lakes are connected by canal. Activities include boating, fishing, and lake side camping. Located 2 miles northwest of Graham off US 380 west. Also accessible from Olney and Newcastle. |
Fort Phantom Hill Acres: 4,246 Near town of Abilene | Twenty-nine (29) miles shoreline encircled by paved highways (south of old fort ruins). There are numerous marinas, campsites and other facilities for outdoor activities and water sports. Located 10 miles northeast of Abilene via FM 600. Also accessible from Anson. |

Near town of Perryton | (Usually not shown on maps) Nice recreational area on beautiful Wolf Creek; 700 acre county park popular for boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking. Located approximately 12 miles southeast of Perryton off US 83. |

Lost Creek Reservoir Acres: 450
Near town of Jacksboro | Average depth is 45 feet with rock cliffs along shore providing excellent location for fishing. There is a public boat ramp and dock on southwest side of lake (off Texas 59). Located 2 miles downstream from Lake Jacksboro. |

Moss Creek
Near town of Big Spring | Local water supply and recreational facility for local area. Open 6am with over night stays permitted. Activities: Fishing, swimming, camping facilities, groceries and bait available, boating (limited to 15 HP motor). Excellent for bird watching. Located approximately 10 miles south east of Big Spring - take I-20 from Big Spring east to county road. |
Nasworthy Acres: 1,596
Near town of San Angelo | Companion lake to Twin Buttes Reservoir; this municipal lake offers picnicking, fishing, camping, swimming and other water sports. Also 2 non-native species of game fish have been introduced here. Located approximately 6 miles southwest of San Angelo off US 277. |

O.H. Ivie Reservoir
Near town of Ballinger | Offers 3 public recreation areas: Concho (south side); Padgitt (north side); and Kennedy (near north end of dam). Rest rooms and picnic tables available. Located approximately 25 miles southeast of Ballinger; 50 miles east of San Angelo, 25 miles south of Coleman; and 55 miles northwest of Brady. |

Near town of Palo Pinto | On Palo Pinto Creek offering fishing and water sports. Located approximately 25 miles south of Palo Pinto via FM 4 south. FM 3137 west; also accessible from Mineral Wells. |
Pauline Acres: 612
Near town of Quanah | Small lake on Wanderers Creek with tent camping sites (w/hook-ups), swimming, picnicking, bait & tackle and boat ramp. Fish: largemouth and Florida bass and crappie. Located approximately 5 miles east of Quanah off US 287. Also, accessible from Vernon. |
Possum Kingdom Acres: 14,440
Near town of Mineral Wells | One of Texas' most popular lakes with lake side camps and resorts dotted around the area. Activities include skin divers, swimming, boating and fishing. Surrounding area has good seasonal hunting. Possum Kingdom State Park (see Caddo) is on southwestern shore. Located approximately 30 miles northwest of Mineral Wells via Texas 337. Also, accessible from Breckenridge , Caddo, Graham and Graford. |

Trammell Acres: (Small)
Near town of Sweetwater | Smallest of Sweetwater's lake system. No swimming, skiing or boating. Fishing allowed with bait and permit service at lake shore. Located approximately 10 miles south of Sweetwater via FM 1809 from Texas 70. |
Twin Buttes Reservoir
Near town of San Angelo | Impoundment on South and Middle Concho Rivers with earth-fill dam built by US Bureau of Reclamation. Activities include swimming, fishing, boating, and other water sports. Lake side camps and service facilities. Lake Nasworthy is an adjacent impoundment. Located approximately 8 miles southwest of San Angelo off US 277. |
White River Acres: 1,808
Near town of Crosbyton | Water supply for Post, Crosbyton, Spur and Ralls. Features lake side cabins, camping areas, picnic areas, fishing supplies and boat launch and rentals. Located on tributary of Salt Fork of Brazos approximately 16 miles southeast of Crosbyton via FM 651 south, FM 2794. Also accessible from Dickens, Spur and Post. |
Wichita Acres: 2,200
Near town of Wichita Falls | Popular for picnicking, swimming and weekend outings. Excellent fishing with lake record of 12.25 lb. largemouth bass. Located at the south limits of Wichita Falls.

Bob Sandlin State Park on FM 127 and FM 21 provides day use & overnight camping, picnic sites, screened shelters, boat ramp, fishing pier and trails. Information can be obtained at lake HQ off FM 3417 from US 271 south of Mount Pleasant. Also accessible from Pittsburg. Lakes Monticello & Cypress Springs are adjacent. |
Brandy Branch Reservoir Acres: 1,242
Near town of Marshall | Power plant cooling reservoir offers boat ramp, bank fishing (limited). No camping facilities. Located between Marshall and Longview off I-20 on FM 3251 (exit 610) 3 miles south. |
Caddo Acres: 26,800
Near town of Karnack | Spreads over portions of Texas and Louisiana. There are 42 miles of boat roads (marked by state) because the lake is so large. Excellent fishing. Lots of marinas and camps at lake side. Caddo Lake State Park is a few miles north of Karnak. Also, accessible from Jefferson and Uncertain. |
Conroe Acres: 20,985
Near town of Conroe | Impoundment on the West Fork of the San Jacinto River. Lake side offers boat ramps, boat rentals (sailboat included), marinas, and campgrounds. Observation and dam off Texas 105 west of Conroe. Also accessible from I-45 via FM 1097 west and FM 830 west (not shown on most maps). Fishing include catfish, native game fish and other introduced species including walleye and striped bass. |

Near town of Mount Vernon | Scenic area offering shoreline parks, campgrounds and picnic areas, RV hookups, boat ramps, commercial marinas, swimming beach and rest rooms. Five parks include Dogwood Park, Mary King Park, Walleye Park, Overlook Park and W.D. Jack Guthrie Park. Excellent bird watching. Fishing for catfish and black bass. Located approximately 8 miles southeast of Mount Vernon via Texas 37 south, FM 2723 east. Also, accessible from Pittsburg. |

Near town of Jefferson | Corps of Engineers reservoir and one of the most attractive in East texas. Activities include boating, fishing, sailing, swimming, camping, and water skiing. For information contact HQ at east end of Ferrell's Bridge Dam, FM 726. Located approximately 10 miles west of Jefferson via FM 729. Also accessible from Gilmer, Lone Star, Ore City, Daingerfield and Avinger. |

Near town of Belton | Impoundment of the Lampasas River with broad areas of open water between steep, rocky shores. Public parks (5) offer camping, marina service, picnicking, fishing and boat ramps.
